I KNOW NOTHING

When evening comes, I return home and go into my study. On the threshold I strip off my muddy, sweaty workday clothes, and put on the robes of court and palace, and in this graver dress I enter the antique courts of the ancients and am welcomed by them… . Then I make bold to speak to them and ask the motives for their actions and they, in their humanity, reply to me. And for the space of four hours I forget the world, remember no vexations, fear poverty no more, tremble no more at death: I pass into their world.”

the grad students and post docs in my lab are great and my advisor is great :-)

idk how to even word this but my fellow white people need to stop pretending they’re not white and talking shit about white people as if they’re above their privilege or in some weird attempt to show PoC that they’re “one of the good guys” or as if they’re somehow being “one of the cool white people” like sorry to break it to you you’re still fucking white and you still need to constantly be aware of your privilege and work to deconstruct shit. idk if it’s a running from the concept of privilege or being super scared of being considered “one of the bad guys” but like not being a racist fuckstain doesn’t absolve you from privilege or mean you can erase the fact that you’re white

Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest. It’s about who walked into your life, said “I’m here for you” and proved it.

"We don’t like pictures like this. It is not good to deduce an entire country to the image of a person reaching out for food. It is not good for people to see us like this, and it is not good for us to see ourselves like this. This gives us no dignity. We don’t want to be shown as a country of people waiting for someone to bring us food. Congo has an incredible amount of farmland. An incredible amount of resources. Yes, we have a lot of problems. But food is not what we are reaching for. We need investment. We need the means to develop ourselves."

Mindy Kaling became [B.J. Novak’s] on-off girlfriend, their loggerhead relationship mirroring that of their characters and continuing with his work on her sitcom, The Mindy Project.

Back then, “it never occurred to us. It was Greg who couldn’t get enough of our rows and put them in the show,” Novak says. “With a little distance, I can see what was so funny, that we were always fighting about everything, especially creatively, but were always together. People that are inseparable but can’t get along is very funny. And in a strange way, very romantic.”
